Chuys Comida Deluxe – An Austin original and still the weirdest restaurant around. Go to the Barton Springs location.
Loco Maria’s Taco Express – On south Lamar. Say hi to Maria
for us.
Fine Dining
Hudson’s on the Bend – the world’s best game dishes.
Shoreline Grill – next to the four seasons
Other notable eats –
Kerby Lane Café – any location
Din Ho Chinese BBQ – Off Research
Free Time
While you’re here you need to check out some of the local sites
and places, tops on the list –
State Capital – Just walk around it, yes Texas is big, as a
matter of fact this is the only state capital that is taller than
the U.S. Capital in D.C.
Bats on Congress Ave – Just go to the south side of the bridge
on Congress Ave at sunset May through October, then you’ll
understand.
Lakes – Any of our lakes and you’ll see why we live in such a
wonderful place. Try Lake Austin from Hula Hut on lake Austin blvd.
Or go to Lake Travis, you may want to try the Oasis, the sunsets are
breathtaking. Unfortunately you probably don’t want to eat the
food as it is less than uneventful.
After Dark
Well we are the live music capital of the world. It would be a
shame to not see some of the best play and here’s where they do it
–
Antone’s – Classic Austin blues joint. The best of the best
have played here. The most recent location is on 5th street near the
warehouse district.
Continental Club – South congress – blues, rock, jazz,
whatever turns them one at the time.
Saxon Pub – South Lamar – small cramped but with some of the
best live music in Austin.
Broken Spoke – South Lamar - This is country and we mean
country. Bring your boots and don’t miss it as they aren’t much
for advertising.
Your best bet is to pick up a copy of the Austin Chronicle –
that’s the local weekly on what’s happening in Austin. It comes
out on Thursday.
